Review: ACAAN the Bar Magico Sessions by Tango Magic

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_custom_heading text=”Reviewer: John Teo”][vc_column_text]If you are looking for “your own holy grail” (your preferred method) of ACAAN, your search may well end up here.

This DVD contains 4 different presentations of ACAAN, with 4 varying difficulties of methods.  They range from automatic (non sleight-of-hand) to difficult where memorising is required, to using a secret device.

Three of the methods are from Marcelo Insua, aka Mr Tango, and one from Juan Pablo Ibanez.  The premise is a bar magico session in which both Mr Tango and Juan Pablo performs and then explains with 2 other Spanish magicians Sergio Bustos and Francisco Nardi.

The 4 versions of ACAAN presented are:

  • Invisible Deck (Mr Tango) – a spectator names any number.  Performer mimes dealing cards one at a time onto the table and the spectator calls “stop” at any card.  Imagination becomes reality when a deck of cards placed on the table all this time is taken up and dealt to the named number where the selected card is found.
  • Written Down (Mr Tango) – this is the most direct method.   Performer writes a number on a pad.  A spectator names any card.  A deck of cards on the table is dealt to the performer’s number and the spectator’s card is found at this location.
  • Impromptu (Mr Tango) – a spectator names a card, picks this card from a deck of cards (can be borrowed) and then loses it back in the deck.  He names a number.  Performer deals the deck to this number and finds the selected card.
  • No Touch (Juan Pablo) – this is a 2-deck ACAAN.  One deck is used as a demonstration while the other deck is later shown to have the chosen card at the randomly named number.  The principle used is quote subtle and the performer need not touch any of the decks at all during the performance.

Of the 4 effects, the “Invisible Deck” routine is the hardest to master.  Juan Pablo’s effect has no sleight-of-hand and can be done hands-free.  The “Written Down” effect requires the use of a popular mentalist’s accessory.  The “Impromptu” effect is the weakest of the lot.  However, at the spur of a moment, and with a borrowed deck of cards, you can perform this effect.

You receive a DVD featuring the 4 ACAAN effects.  The DVD is supposed to contain both the English as well as the Spanish languages.  However, it plays only in English.  Mr Tango does all the teaching and translation.  He does well even though English is not his official language.  The DVD also contains 2 pdf files.  They are written instructions in English for Juan Pablo’s effect as well as for Mr Tango’s “Invisible Dec” effect.

It will be unusual if anyone looking for an ACAAN effect cannot find at least one routine he can use in this DVD.
