Review: Marvelous Multiplying Card Boxes by Matthew Wright and Vanishing Inc

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_custom_heading text=”Reviewer: John Teo”][vc_column_text]The Marvelous Multiplying Boxes allow you to display a bicycle cased deck when it visually multiplies to 2 cases.  The first case is put away, yet magically, another box appears with the box in your hand.  This is also put away when another box makes its sudden appearance.  Finally, one of the boxes is put away and the box that is left in your hand is used in your favourite card effect.  This makes a good introductory lead-in to a card trick.

You receive 3 plastic nesting deck shells and 6 bicycle deck self-sticking labels to be pasted onto the 3 shells.  3 of the labels are for blue bicycle decks and the other 3 are for red bicycle decks.  The labels come in “large”, “middle” and “small” sizes to match the 3 nesting shells.

The 3 nesting shells are well made and they nest smoothly and silently.

Included is also an instructional DVD featuring the creator Matthew Wright.  He shows you how to stick the labels onto the shells, where to get replacement stickers and how to replace worn-out stickers.  The first generation product was made of metal.  This was what Matthew Wright used in the video.  You can hear the metal “talks” as a shell is slid off the other.  The plastic shells that are supplied will not have this problem.

Matthew Wright explains his “Galzaghe Routine” using the Marvelous Multiplying Boxes.  Matthew Wright’s performances are usually fast-paced and consist of many different effects and gags put together into a complete routine.  Matthew starts with a silk and makes a deck of cards appear from inside it.  This deck multiplies into 4.  3 of them are put away and the last deck is used in a card trick.  A spectator merely thinks of a card in the deck and the magician produces it.  The card is lost in the deck and another spectator finds it.  The performer takes out a pen for the spectator to sign on the chosen card.  Matthew performs the pen up the nose gag.  The signed card is lost in the deck.  Another spectator finds the wrong card which magically changes into the signed card.  Finally this card vanishes from the deck to appear inside his wallet.  The card is returned to the deck and several spectators are asked to put their hands on top of the deck.  The magician produces the signed card from the deck and uses it to cause all the cards to vanish.  When the spectators lift up their hands, a transparent deck (omni deck) is seen!  All the sleights and gags used in this routine are fully taught by Matthew.  There are 2 different live performances of his “Galzaghe Routine” in the DVD.

Matthew also discusses other ideas of using the deck shells.  One is for a deck switch, and the other is for card under the box effect.

The Multiplying Boxes is visual enough to be used on stage or parlour, as a lead-in to card manipulations.
