Review: Past Present Future by Rick Lax

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_custom_heading text=”Reviewer: Madame Curator”][vc_column_text]In the past 15 years I’ve performed magic as an entertainer, ever so often I do get people requesting for their fortunes read. If you’re a fellow worker as well, I’m sure it would have happened to you some time or other at a professional gig! It’s interesting how some muggles genuinely believe we are much more than mere mortals, mysteriously gifted with insight for the future. PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE by Rick Lax, would be that perfect routine to perform at such occasions!

So what’s it about? Past Present Future by Rick Lax is essentially a three part prediction using tarot cards that involves the free will of one chosen spectator. Done well, you could  well be on your way to starting your very own cult. It is a beautiful effect that can create a mystical experience capable of bringing people to tears as they ponder about their life choices, fate and destiny. So please use this responsibly, do not abuse this power!

Rick Lax’s PPF tarot cards consists of major arcana cards about 2.5″ x 4.5″ in size and just slightly thinner than a regular deck of cards. Specially created by the good fellas at Card Shark in Germany, the card stock is of high standards and the tarot artwork looks legit. English words are printed above and their German translation below. While its been designed to look aged with printed creases and lines, the colours of the artwork really do pop. It’s clearly been designed with much pride and care by a professional graphic artist, no doubt about that!

The cards handle very well, and when its …special quality… needs to be “retouched” after several performances (no darling it’s not fairy dust), chances are you already own what’s needed to make them handle like new again. In the highly unlikely event you don’t, you’d have a magician buddy who has it and you can also simply order the stuff from your favourite magic dealer. Rick covers this in his instructional video.

You get access to the download link upon purchase and the 48 minute video contains detailed instructions on handling the PPF deck, performing the routine, plus cold reading tips to really sell your performance, and more. Seeing Rick in his element when performing his killer routine to various ladies at a club, it’s not difficult to imagine how you can easily impress the ladies. While I personally never ever advocate using magic to pick up girls, I can see how one can be possibly very successful in getting someone’s phone number with PPF 😉

Rick teaches his very cleverly structured routine, which plays really strong as it’s all about the choices made by your spectator. Three cards are very fairly selected and all seems fair, but when her tarot selections are turned over, it is revealed that you knew her choices all along because you had very clearly marked your three predictions on the backs of her three selections accordingly: Past, Present, and Future.

Reset is instant, and Rick shows how you can also do it right under their noses. The moves are super easy to do, allowing you to focus on your presentation and delivery. Spectators do have a free choice of sorts, so the card selections will be different. But I would not recommend doing it again for the very same group, for obvious reasons.

A smart feature of the PPF box, which I think most magicians would appreciate, is that the entire list of major arcana cards are listed along with their meanings. So if you’re not all that familiar with the tarot, a shrewd glimpse of this cheat sheet would allow you to peek the word (e.g. Death = Transformation) and play up to it. However I’d highly encourage performers to read up about the tarot. Study these 21 images, lock it into your head and allow the storyteller in you to radiate.

In the video tutorial, Rick touches on Barnum statements and cold reading; which is essential in your delivery to really push that belief. This isn’t your standard card trick. You cease being a magician who does fancy card tricks for a living. You transform into a gifted mystic who reveals wise insights of your spectator’s past, present and future. It’s all about them, it’s all about their lives, it’s about their fate and destiny in their lifetime. You gift them with a highly intimate experience.

Tarot cards are pretty universal, and there’s always a mysterious aura to them which always appeal to people’s curiosity. Plus the whole show becomes about them… their decisions, their fate and destiny, their lives! Rick Lax’s PPF has the potential to be a reputation maker for those who possess the gift of gab. If this is the route you’re keen on, I’d highly recommend you study all the works of the supremely wonderful and talented Richard Webster.

This makes a most wonderful first “story telling effect” for the discerning magician who suspects there’s a potential mystery performer in them 😉 Rick’s handmade PPF deck is well worth the investment and its accompanying video is very well done.  Highly recommended, fully deserving of a perfect 10. This is powerful stuff!
