Review: My Silly Tricks by Hector Mancha

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_custom_heading text=”Reviewer: Bernard Sim”][vc_column_text]I was intrigued by the title of this DVD. My Silly Trick is a compilation of short tricks by Hector Mancha.

The first effect uses a Ukulele.  When I saw the Ukulele before the effect was performed, I was having high expectation for it. How many shows have you seen that opens with an Ukulele? After I saw the effect, I was a bit disappointed. The Ukulele is actually a card trick; though I can’t see the connection of a card and the Ukulele. You can use other big object to replace the Ukulele if you don’t have one.

Break The Ice is an effect using a handkerchief which you have to make yourself. The hankie is rather simple to make, much like an egg bag. With this hankie, you can show the hankie empty both sides and yet still able to produce ice and a hammer, at the end, you can produce a wine bottle or wine glass if you choose to. You can also produce other items as long as it can fit into the hankie.

Rubber Guillotine is a rubber band through the neck effect. I don’t think this is original with him. I see a similar effect by Joe Rindfleisch in his book Elastrix. Mancha did also mentioned that he don’t know who came out with this effect.

Small Water Torture Cell is an interesting trick using a toy figure, a deck of cards, some threads and a jar of water. The effect is the toy figure is tied with a thread and a card is selected. Both of them are thrown into the jar of water. When the figure is taken out, the selected card is also found tied to the toy figure. Though I find the effect interesting, you need a jar that is big enough to soak the toy figure and a deck of cards. Each time you perform this, you will spoil a deck of cards too.

Daisy Ending is the “endless” plucking of a flower. In the end the “petal-less” flower changes back into a flower with full petals.

The next one has a very interesting title…My Magic Nipple. If you are expecting something sexual, you’d be disappointed. This is a selected card through t-shirt, much like a coin through pants. Nothing to do with the nipple.

Card Under Watch is like what the title says. This is a good way to perform the card under watch effect.

Earthquake rising card is not really a rising card. It is more like a Haunted Deck but you have to shake the whole deck on the palms of your hand. The selected card is then slowly slide out. Not really impressed with this.

My personal Triumph is his version of the classic effect Triumph. The effect is standard but the method is slightly different. The method is rather clever though you need to practice.

Overall, I think the DVD is ok, there is nothing ground breaking but there are still some interesting effects in the DVD. I’d buy this for the Triumph, Daisy ending and Break the Ice.
