[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_custom_heading text=”Reviewer: Madame Curator”][vc_column_text]The magic market is sometimes filled with nonsense crap by “creative inventors” (sometimes it seems more appropriate to call a spade a spade and aptly refer to them as intellectual property thieves) who flood the marketplace with crap just so that they can earn an extra buck.
Thankfully, one professional magic producer that consistently puts out good work, is Big Blind Media. The Controls Project, presented by affable and adroit UK magician Liam Montier, is truly a fantastic card control resource for all magicians regardless of skill level. I cannot recommend this enough!
Filmed in HD with angle and audio clarity, besides a professional menu that allows you to easily navigate through the wealth of information within the DVD, the well-produced tutorial itself is broken down into two main sections: Techniques and Routines.
26 card techniques are shared in The Controls Project, teaching the aspiring card shark how to covertly move playing cards to any position in a deck of cards. Foundational know-hows like holding a break, doing a double undercut, to overhand shuffle controls, working the hindu shuffle control or the dribble toss control, besides practising the tipper control or ovate master move, to side steals and spread cull control, pulling off a flawless convincing control and bluff pass, to more technical complex card sleights like Dai Vernon’s multiple shift and OMG so much more… card technician Montier does an excellent job of taking viewers through the entire ride.
So if you want to be a card ninja when you grow up, this is definitely the magic DVD for you. It also comes with 6 routines, including wickedly good stuff from magic greats like Alex Elmsley and Larry Jennings.
Crammed with great content, The Controls Project is a steal at it’s listed price and I cannot recommend this enough. I guess if I had to really nitpick, the only gripe I’d have would be with the girls they feature on the DVD (and other BBM produced features like the highly recommended Out of Sleight DVD by Cameron Francis).
Now, don’t get me wrong… I really look up to both Francis and Montier; they’re contemporary magic geniuses and seem to be really nice guys as well. But oftentimes the hot girls with their serious full sleeve tattoos at the table just don’t seem all that into magic …one time when passing behind me while I was watching the DVD at the computer, my spouse earnestly asked if they were dance/ strippers… BUT having said that, I guess hey if it works for the boys (the 99.9% of magicians out there anyway) then, why fix it if it ain’t broke 😉
