Review: At the Table Live Lecture, Woody Aragon

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_custom_heading text=”Reviewer: Maarten Bosmans”][vc_column_text]Woody Aragon is a Spanish magician who also has created the Woodyland DVDs and Separagon.

As magicians we are always interested in tricks, in this lecture you will learn only 3 tricks.

Some magicians will say 3 tricks this is nothing, but I think these 3 tricks are real workers and you could do some miracles with these.

The first trick goes as follow, Woody asks Greg to think of a card he names the 4 of hearts then Woody instantly cuts to the 4 of hearts. He asks name another one it’s the 9 of hearts and there is only one red card is in his blue deck this is of course the 9 of hearts.

Then this red card changes into a 4 of hearts his first thought of card and then in another card Greg spotted into the deck the Queen of hearts, so you have 3 changes of a card from only red card in the deck. This is a really great effect.

The thing I liked about this lecture and the lectures of many Spanish magicians is that they make the effects seem difficult whilst the method is simple. In this lecture you will learn allot of great principles.  At the end of the lecture Woody talks about using a safety net when an effect goes wrong. Every single one of us has done a bad trick and after this experience most of us magicians do 2 things, stop doing the trick or practice like hell. In this lecture you will learn a third approach. I consider this to be the price of the lecture alone.

As a magician we should stop worrying about not knowing enough tricks, here Woody teaches some basic false shuffles that are in every beginner’s magic book. Most of us magicians skim through these items when we see it in a book, but the way Woody uses these simple shuffles to make it more deceptive is brilliant. I learned from this is that I need to go back to the basics and study this again because in here you can find really beautiful Gems if you apply them in original ways.

You will also learn an easy and deceptive method how to disappear a card that has been spotted in the deck.

There is also an effect called Psychic poker in which the spectator shuffles the deck and you predict each of the 4 hands of poker that the spectators dealt on the table. It is a nice routine that you can use in different styles of presentations.

I can assume allot of magicians will have a problem with this lecture because there weren’t many tricks. I loved this lecture there was allot of theory that is really useful for starting magicians and experienced magicians. We should look at all of the information Woody has given us and try to create our own effects with these methods and principles.
