Review: Priceless by Michel Huot and Richard Sanders

The basic effect of Priceless is that someone names a price at random and that number is found printed on a price tag hanging from a security tag on your jacket.

The sight of a security tag attached to your jacket implies that the jacket is stolen.  This provides a comical situation.

The fact that a price is named at random and that exact figure is found on a price tag on your jacket offers a wonderful premise for a strong mentalism effect.

So Priceless provides both comedy and magic – this makes for a wonderfully entertaining trick.  I can see a lot of magicians using this effect!

You receive the custom made gimmicked security tag, 2 different versions of the price tag, 2 price-tag lines, and a non-permanent marker.  You need to attach your preferred price tag onto the security tag using the price-tag line, and then fix the security tag onto your performing jacket.  This is the work of less than one minute.  Full instructions plus footages of live performances are available from an online video.

You are taught 3 different routines by both Michel Huot and Richard Sanders.  The first routine is a straight-forward serious type mentalism effect where the comedy part is not played up.  The other 2 routines feature both comedy and magic – they are 2 different ways of presenting the effect.  One is not to even mention about the price tag until the random price is named.  The second method is to show the price tag at the beginning of the performance and then to refer to it again when the random price has been named.  Both are equally strong presentations, as can be seen in the live footages in the video.

The online instructional video is well produced but it contains an inconsistency in the audio volume.  At certain portions of the video, the audio becomes quite soft.  Richard Sanders provides much valuable tips and nuances.

Priceless is simple to perform, easy to set up and to reset.  Any price can be named and that exact figure will be found stated on the price tag.  The price tag can be attached to the inside or outside of your performing jacket.  It is ideal for performing on stage, but is equally suitable for close-up performances.

Priceless is priceless to a performing magician!
