The effect is clear and straight forward. Three spectators are freely selected. Each spectator is asked a different question, and before the spectators announce their answer, the performer writes down the answers in three separate note pads, each clearly marked 1, 2 and 3.

The performer asks the first spectator her answer and the performer opens up the note pad that is marked 1. The answers match. The second spectator states what she was thinking and the performer opens up the note pad marked as number 2. Again the performer is correct. The third person is asked what she thought of and again the performer opens up the note pad marked as number 3, and once again the answers match. The performer was able to know what each spectator was thinking.

Dee Christopher’s Triptic solves the common problem and weakness of the typical routine using the one ahead principle. In the typical one ahead principle the performer must mix the billets or pieces of paper in a certain way and they cannot be clearly marked. With Triptic the note pads are clearly marked in the beginning of the routine before any of the questions are asked. as 1, 2 and 3 or however the performer wants to mark them. The pdf and video give some interesting variations besides marking them 1, 2 and 3.

Triptic does use gimmicked note pads. While you can purchase the gimmicked pads directly from Dee Christopher, the pdf and video do tell you how to construct them yourself. The pads are not difficult to construct. You will need to find the right type of pads that have a specific type of cover. Three identical pads are needed to build one gimmicked pad and you will need three gimmicked pads to do the routines. It is certainly worth the small investment in time and money to do these powerful routines.

The pdf is 5 pages long which includes several routines. Included with the pdf is a 32 minute downloadable video that explains in detail the gimmicked pads and shows a live performance of using the pads.

Triptic is the best one ahead technique that I have seen that can be used in many different types of confabulation routines. The pdf and video give some ideas on a with a variety of themes that can be used. The pads are not difficult to construct and they are not difficult to use, but do take a certain knack to use them correctly.

Highly recommended. 8 lucky charms out of 10.
