Review: Void by Agus Tjiu

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_custom_heading text=”Reviewer: John Teo”][vc_column_text]This is a hole-moving effect on a playing card.  It is similar to Spacetime by Tom Elderfield.  I believe these 2 effects were put out independently at around the same time.

In effect, a small hole is punched onto a playing card with a hole-puncher.  Visually, and without any cover, this hole moves from one end of the card to the central location of the card, and then to the other end of the card.

A full routine looks like this.  A card is selected and a hole is punched at one end with a hole-puncher.  With a flick of the card, this hole visually moves to the central area of the card.  Another flick of the card, and the hole moves to the opposite end of the card.  Each time that the hole moves, the card can be freely shown front and back.  Finally, the hole jumps onto another card taken from the deck.  Both of these cards can be fully examined!

You receive 2 specially manufactured gimmicked cards and a generous supply of spares to repair a particular part of the gimmick cards.  You need to supply your own -deck of bicycle cards and a hole puncher.  When purchasing this effect, be sure to specify whether you want the gimmicked cards to be in blue or red bicycle backs.  You also receive a DVD with the creator of the effect performing and explaining everything.  He speaks in the Indonesian language but there subtitles in the English language.  The DVD is well produced and the instructions are easy to follow.

The 2 gimmicked cards are extremely well manufactured and work very smoothly.  Although not mentioned in the DVD, gimmicked cards such as these with moving parts should be handled and stored carefully.  If any of them are subject to heavy pressure over a prolonged period of time, they may fail to work smoothly.

The second gimmicked card allows you to perform an ultra-clean and visual hole moving effect with 2 selected and signed cards!  It is similar to the basic routine except it is performed with 2 cards that are signed.  At the end of the performance, these 2 cards can be given away as souvenirs to the 2 spectators who selected and signed these cards!

The most mystifying part of the routine, the magical transportation of the hole, is extremely easy to so and can be performed at very close quarters, thanks to the well-made gimmick card.  To put the effect into a routine, you need to know how to force a card and the double-lift – 2 basic sleights of card magic, nothing difficult.  After performance, the 2 cards at play can be freely given out for examination.
