Review: Fantastic 3 by Kris Rubens

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_custom_heading text=”Reviewer: John Teo”][vc_column_text]“Fantastic 3” comprises 3 effects that can be performed by the use of a specially prepared card.

You receive 2 of these special cards in red back bicycle design, and an instructional DVD.  You only need to use one of these cards.  The other one can be used as a spare.  You need to supply your very own red back bicycle deck of cards.

The 3 effects possible with this special card are:

WTF

2 spectators, each selects a different card from a deck.  The 2 cards are then replaced and lost in the deck.  The performer turns over the top card to show a red queen.  It is not either one of the 2 selections.  The performer says he will use this red queen to find the 2 chosen cards.  The cards are spread, and the other red queen magically appears face upwards, trapping a card between them.  This card is shown to be the second spectator’s selection.  This card is taken out.  The 2 queens are turned face downwards and this card is then inserted back face downwards between the 2 queens.  When the 3 cards are turned face upwards, the 2 queens are seen sandwiching a different card – it is the first spectator’s selected card.  The second spectator’s card can be reproduced from the performer’s pocket or elsewhere.  The 2 selections can be signed.

Open Prediction

The beauty of this effect is its simplicity and directness.  The performer takes a card from a deck and places it, face unseen, downwards on the table.  This is his prediction card.  The deck is spread face downwards and a spectator freely selects a card.  This selection is placed on top of the prediction card on the table.  Both cards are then turned over and they are found to be perfect mates!  Clean as a whistle, made possible by the use of the special card.

Catch Me If You Can

This effect is entitled as such because there are a lot of magic happening within a short space of time.  A pair of mating cards is taken out from a deck and placed to one side.  A card is selected from a deck and signed.  It is then clearly placed in-between the 2 mating cards.  Immediately, the packet of 3 cards is spread and the middle card has vanished.  It is then found face upwards buried in the middle of the deck when the deck is spread face downwards.  The signed selection is then turned over – amazingly, its back has now magically changed from red to blue!

Even with the use of the special card that you receive, you need also to be able to perform some basic card sleights such as double-lift, double undercut, riffle force and controlling a card to the top.

The 3 effects taught are quite strong.  Once you understand the working of this special card, you can create your own tricks.

This special card looks and feels like an ordinary bicycle playing card.  If you wish, it can be handled and examined by a spectator, yet this person will not discover the secret.

The special card will last dozens of performances.  If it gets worn out, you are supplied with the second one to be used as a replacement.
