Review: Midnight Side of the Mind by Paul Voodini

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_custom_heading text=”Reviewer: Madame Curator”][vc_column_text]Professional mystery performer Paul Voodini’s Midnight Side of the Mind is a fascinating 110 page PDF that will interest mentalists and mind magicians keen on mystery entertainment such as remote viewing, past life regression, clairvoyance, and other phenomena that cannot be explained by science.

The e-book contains plenty of clever routines (psychometry for example) that bizarre magick artists would probably love to perform right away. While there is a notably strong English influence (e.g. theme of Jack the Ripper) since Paul Voodini is from the UK, I think that it is very possible to craft a similar presentation that fits your local audience or culture/ history if you’re from another part of the world. You just need to use your imagination 😉

Speaking of which… Apparently Paul created this as he became interested in the power of the imagination as a tool for mentalism after studying hypnotherapy with UK hypnotist Anthony Jacquin. Noticing a lot of correlation between what happens in the world of hypnosis and the world of seance, he wondered if it was possible to combine the two. Paul was also asked by event organisers if he could incorporate the past life regressions he was doing as part of a stage act, so all these elements came together around the same time and helped form the manuscript, Midnight Side of the Mind.

Although there are plenty of books on hypnosis and suggestion, and plenty on past life regressions, remote viewing, and clairvoyance, it seems like this is the first body of work to take these phenomena and artfully combine them, presenting them fully scripted for a performer to use in an entertainment setting. Entirely gimmickless. That’s right, nada. The routines shared all depend only on the power of words to create amazing phenomena.

Finishing Paul’s book, I came away with a newfound appreciation for the power of suggestion and imagination, and how these tools can be employed by magicians and mystery performers to create genuine moments of wonder and awe.

So is this for you? I say, invest in this if you wish to experience a vista of what mystery entertainment can achieve, since it teaches you how to take people back to previous incarnations, to see people and objects on the other side of the world, and how to actually see and interact with spirits. It’s emotional, powerful, and has boundless possibilities.

The book is an interesting read strategically priced to keep away the merely curious. Targetted at true students of the art; magicians of the mind, mentalists, and hypnotists, Midnight Side of the Mind isn’t a quick fix collection of routines but a serious piece of work for the serious performer whether they be professional who is booked for corporate shows and special events, or a hobbyist who entertains at home for family and friends.

Obviously Midnight Side of the Mind is not for everybody (for instance your buddy the church magician at Sunday school), but I do highly recommend this ebook if you’re a serious mystery performer of bizarre magick, or a mind magician interested in learning the ropes.
