Review: Mini-Bud by SansMinds Creative Lab

[vc_row][vc_column width=”2/3″][vc_custom_heading text=”Reviewer: John Teo”][vc_column_text]The people in SansMind Creative Lab are truly creative.  They have come out with a contemporary effect that interests everybody as it involves a common place item.

Almost everybody has a mobile phone, and most people use earphones with their mobile phones.  Tangled earphones then becomes a common problem.  It is an irritating problem because it takes people a lot of time to untangle the earphones.  How they wish they could simply use a “magic wand” and cause their earphones to become untangled.

Well – they can!  Here comes “Mini-Buds”.  A usual 3.5 feet long mobile earphones is displayed.  It visually shrinks to a 4.5 inches long earphones!  This becomes a solution to their tangled earphones problem!  The shrunken earphones can be immediately handed out for examination!  This shortened earphones looks really cute!

You receive all the necessary props to perform the effect.  You only need to fix up the device.  We cannot tell you more about the props, otherwise it would reveal the methodology of the effect.  Suffice to say that you also receive a utility item with which you can perform other effects.

The props come with an instructional DVD.  As with all SansMind Magic’s products, their instructional DVDs are very well produced.  The presenter in this DVD speaks rather rapidly.  This is not a problem – it merely forces you to pay more careful attention to what is being said.

Also, as with most of SansMind Magic’s products, the teaser does not do complete justice to the actual performance of the effect.  The teaser shows the performer freely playing with the ear phones before he shrinks it.  In actual performance, you do not have that much of a freedom.  Even if you do, this part of the performance is not taught in the DVD.  In the DVD, all performances are studio performances.  The audience does see you hold the earphones and then it visually shrinks to a short one.  The impact is still there, except that if you expect to be able to perform exactly as depicted in the teaser, you will be disappointed.

The shrinking ear phone has a great impact on the audience.  It does require a little set up just before the performance.  Once it is set up, the trick almost works by itself, and you can perform it surrounded.  The nice thing about this effect is that you can immediately hand out the shrunken ear phones for examination.  You also need to be wearing a sleeved attire.

The DVD gives various practical tips and teaches several variations.  Just as you can shrink the ear phones, you can show a short ear phones and then proceed to stretch it to a long one.  The attached phone handling allows you to first show the ear phones attached to a mobile phone and then you visually shrink it to a short one, with the connector still attached to the mobile phone.  In the detached cable handling, you show a wrapped up ear phones, and then proceed to detach a long portion of the cable off from the ear buds and connector, leaving behind a short cable ear phones.  The detached cable comes off as an endless loop.

With a little creative thinking, you can also come out with other effects with mobile ear phones using the gimmick received.  This is a quick trick, easy to perform, and will fascinate any modern audience.
